The ability for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class to get a well-rounded group on both sides of the ball largely hinges on how this coaching staff does along the offensive line. Texas has already landed commitments from two offensive linemen in the 2022 class, but more depth and talent is needed across the board in the trenches.

Texas got commitments subsequently back on July 2 from two in-state interior offensive linemen. Those two commitments arrived a little more than one week ago in the form of four-star Frisco product Cole Huston and three-star Westlake product Connor Robertson.

But that doesn’t take into account all of the misses that the Longhorns did have of late. Texas missed out on the likes of two offensive tackles that could hurt the depth in this class in the trenches when it’s all said and done if this coaching staff isn’t able to flip at least one of them.

The two key offensive tackles that Texas missed out on in the first week of the dead period included five-star Summer Creek product Kelvin Banks and three-star Duncanville product Cameron Williams. Both Banks and Williams landed with head coach Mario Cristobal and the Oregon Ducks.

Texas is starting to find some new targets to fill out their big board along the offensive line for the 2022 class, though. One target that started to emerge for the Longhorns in the past couple of months is the sizable 6-foot-5 and 330-pound St. John Bosco interior offensive lineman Earnest Greene.

Traction catching fast between Texas football and 4-Star IOL Earnest Greene

As a switchable offensive lineman that could play either on the interior or adapt his body early in his career and slide over to a tackle spot, Greene would be a nice addition to the 2022 class. Texas does look to sit in a decent position at the moment with Greene too.

Texas hosted Greene for a recent visit, and it will be key to get another official visit with him on the books by the fall. The Ohio State Buckeyes already have an official visit scheduled with him for the fall, specifically on Sep. 11.

Greene even posted some edits of himself on social media last week in the Texas uniform. That looks to be a good sign moving forward for the Longhorns.

Texas has made headway pretty fast with Greene. As the most recent school to send him a scholarship offer, there was traction between Greene and the Longhorns fast. Texas and Ohio State are two of the two-dozen schools on Greene’s offer sheet as of the afternoon of July 13.

Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet include the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, LSU Tigers, Miami Hurricanes, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Michigan Wolverines, Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans.

Greene is also one of the higher-rated blue-chip targets in the trenches for the Longhorns 2022 class. He ranks as the nation’s No. 57 2022 high school prospect, No. 2 interior offensive lineman, and No. 3 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 67 high school prospect, No. 2 interior offensive lineman, and No. 7 prospect out of California.
