Texas Football: Ewers and Sam Ehlinger spotted working out together
An interesting offseason of workout partners that the former Texas football star senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger was spotted with continued this week. Texas saw their former star quarterback working out with a former commit of the 2022 recruiting class in the elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers.
Texas fans are obviously familiar with both of these talented quarterbacks that were spotted working out together on July 15. Ehlinger played for the Longhorns from 2017-2020. And he was a sixth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in the 2021 NFL Draft, following his declaration to take his talents to the next level this offseason.
Ehlinger did have the opportunity to return to the Forty Acres to play with Texas for one more year, but he elected to pass on that.
The other talented quarterback that was spotted working out here with Ehlinger was the former Texas commit Ewers. This five-star product of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex was committed to former head coach Tom Herman and the Longhorns for a little more than one month last year.

Ewers would essentially flip his commitment to the Ohio State Buckeyes last fall in what seemed like a nightmare scenario at the time for the Longhorns 2022 class. But new head coach Steve Sarkisian and this budding Longhorns 2022 class recovered very nicely in the nine months or so since.
The other high-profile workout partner that Ehlinger was spotted with this offseason since he was drafted by the Colts, was the former Texas Tech Red Raiders star Patrick Mahomes. It’s clear that Ehlinger could likely take more away from Mahomes than Ewers, but both are very high-profile workout partners for the Austin, TX, native.
Ehlinger is now set to compete with the likes of the former Georgia Bulldogs and Washington Huskies quarterback Jacob Eason for the backup job with the Colts this year behind Carson Wentz. The Colts do look to be a good long-term fit for Ehlinger, though.
And with four-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy committed in the Longhorns 2022 class, it doesn’t look like there will be much of any relevant contact between Ewers and Texas any time soon.
Ehlinger finished up his career at Texas with more than 11,000 passing yards, 94 passing touchdowns, and 27 interceptions. Meanwhile, Ewers ranks as the nation’s top 2022 high school prospect in the 247Sports Composite.
