Texas Football: Predicting next 2022 commit after 4-Star S Austin Jordan
Derrick Brown, Edge Rusher
A prospect that was on the Longhorns radar for a good while now is the four-star Texas High edge rusher, Derrick Brown. This 6-foot-3 and 210-pound in-state product was a key priority for this coaching staff during the visit season last month, and he looks to remain one of the top targets along the front seven for this recruiting cycle.
Brown looks to be narrowing his decision down to the Longhorns and Baylor Bears. Texas looked to have the edge over Baylor for most of his recruitment through the end of visit season. But an impressionable Brown started to find some real traction with Baylor following his June 25 official visit with head coach Dave Aranda to Waco.
Texas hosted Brown for his official visit in Austin back on June 4. Getting the first visit in with Brown actually might not have worked out well for the Longhorns in the end. But the momentum is likely to come back to center, and Texas likely holds the slight edge at the moment over Baylor to win over the commitment of Brown in the end.
Brown is set for a July 31 decision date. But since a lot of other decision dates to contested Texas targets were pushed back in the past couple of weeks, the same could be said for Brown. He’s already pushed his decision back once for this month.
Get the edge over Baylor for good, and Brown should be a commitment locked in for the Longhorns. Texas currently has new co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate as the primary recruiters pursuing Brown.
