At this point of the offseason, transfer portal entrants definitely won’t be as frequent as they were a few months ago. And that is something that Texas knows and capitalized on at the right time.

But considering the last remaining need, if there is one, in this rotation for Beard and the Longhorns heading into next season lies in the frontcourt, this is not a bad spot to be in. There are still a few key names out there that could wind up helping to round out the frontcourt on the bench for Beard.

One name that should be familiar to Beard and the Longhorns both is the former Kansas State Wildcats sophomore 6-foot-9 and 230-pound power forward Montavious Murphy. Texas would by no means be getting a big man that would fit into the starting unit, but he could provide valuable depth in a spot that would be thin if injuries ever start to pile up.

While Murphy played most of his minutes at the power forward position during his two seasons at Kansas State, he did spend some time at the five. He could be a switchable piece that the Longhorns use to play at both the four and the five.

Murphy put his name in the transfer portal this month, and he is one of the few big men from a Big 12 program to do so. He could be appearing in the portal at the right time for the Longhorns. If there is one more portal addition on the way, Murphy makes a lot of sense for Texas.
