Before jumping into this, let me see that most of this is speculation. It’s easy to get lost in all of the rumors and speculation at the moment concerning the after-effect of the move of Texas football and the Oklahoma Sooners from the Big 12 to the SEC this week and heading into the weekend.

But if there is one thing that remained true and constant throughout the week, it was the Lone Star Showdown rival Texas A&M Aggies trying to do everything it can to not be in the same conference as the Longhorns. Texas A&M seemingly threw a fit when the school figured out about this potential move from the Longhorns and Sooners leaving the Big 12 to join the SEC.

Texas and Oklahoma are (to a 99 percent confidence it seems at this point) going to join the SEC. Really all it needs at this point to become official is Texas and Oklahoma paying out what is owed to the Big 12 (roughly $150 million between the two schools) and getting through the 11-14 vote needed to add another school to the SEC.

But with the Texas A&M board of regents set to now meet on the evening of July 26, it seems like there are a lot of possible moves to consider from the Longhorns longtime in-state rival. Texas A&M will likely do whatever it takes to try and remain as the sole school from this state in the SEC.

Texas A&M doing everything in its power to slow the move of Texas football and OU to the SEC

The timing of this meeting of the board of regents for the Aggies meeting on the evening of July 26 is no coincidence. That is the last date for which Texas and Oklahoma were anticipated to inform the Big 12 of the intention to leave the conference.

This seems like the last-ditch effort by the Aggies to make sure that the Longhorns and Sooners don’t play in the same conference as them.

But to what extent will Texas A&M go to make sure that it doesn’t have to play in the same conference/division as Texas and Oklahoma?

One far-fetched idea that got tossed around a bit this week was that schools remaining in the Big 12 like the Oklahoma State Cowboys, TCU Horned Frogs, Texas Tech Red Raiders, etc. could try to get the likes of the Aggies and Mizzou Tigers back into the Big 12. It’s hard to think that the Aggies would go that far, but weirder has happened.

Most outlets are pitching the idea of the PAC-12 and Big Ten picking up most of the schools that are left in the Big 12, including CBS Sports in a piece this week. But at this point anything is possible, and you can’t rule out the possibility of Texas A&M seeking to go elsewhere, although the chances of that seem slim.

The main point here is that the Aggies are looking to go to far extremes to try and keep Oklahoma and Texas out of the SEC. The particular extreme that Texas A&M chooses to go with to try and keep these two schools out of the SEC is likely to be known by Monday.

This conversation continues to go on as Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC looks like more and more of a certainty each passing day. There are times that this looks like more of a certainty with each passing hour.
