Texas Football: 4-Star DL target Quency Wiggins set to visit next week
In the past few days, it seems like there’s nothing that the 2022 Texas football recruiting class could really do to not be overshadowed by all the movement for this school and the Oklahoma Sooners to potentially make the move from the Big 12 to the SEC. At this point, it seems like a certainty that Texas and Oklahoma will leave the Big 12 for the SEC in the end.
Yet, there is other news worth noting on the recruiting trail at the moment. New head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns 2022 class are about to host some top targets on the recruiting trail to end the month of July next weekend.
And one of the more recent additions to the list of visitors for the final weekend of July, once the dead period lifts, came this weekend. According to a report from Horns247 on July 24 (paid content), four-star Madison Prep Academy (LA) defensive lineman Quency Wiggins will visit Texas at some point within the next week.
The 2022 Texas football recruiting class soon set to host 4-Star DL Quency Wiggins
No specific date was reportedly set yet for Wiggins to visit the Longhorns in the next week. But this is big news for Texas to get one of the top defensive line targets of the 2022 class on campus for a visit prior to the start of fall camp.
The talented and sizable 6-foot-6 and 275-pound Louisiana native did not visit Texas officially or unofficially last month. The schools he did visit were the LSU Tigers, Ole Miss Rebels, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Florida Gators. It looked like he was pretty much locked into the SEC last month in the midst of visit season.
But don’t count Texas out yet in the race to land a commitment from Wiggins. Texas still looks to remain among the frontrunners in his recruitment.
It wasn’t all that long ago that the Longhorns originally offered Wiggins. He got his scholarship offer from Texas back on April 13, 2021. And Texas has new defensive line coach Bo Davis as his primary recruiter.
Making the right impression with Wiggins and trying to get him back on campus for an official visit this fall will be key to continue to try and win over his interests. It does seem like Texas has some work to do to catch up with the likes of Alabama and LSU among his top schools.
Wiggins is one of the higher-rated remaining uncommitted defensive line targets of the Longhorns 2022 class. He ranks as the nation’s No. 102 2022 high school prospect, No. 18 defensive lineman, and No. 7 prospect out of Louisiana (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 99 high school prospect, No. 15 defensive lineman, and No. 6 prospect out of Louisiana.
