Big 12 Football: 3 schools AAC would love to add the most
There seems to be a lot of discussion this week about the number of Big 12 football programs that could come up either joining the PAC-12 or the American Athletic Conference. The idea that the AAC could either pry away some Big 12 programs, or merge with this conference altogether, is one that gained steam around various media and fan circles this week.
Hence, the Big 12 is going to find itself in a tough position if really any other significant conference comes knocking to get at least a few of the eight remaining schools in the mix. Especially if the Big Ten, PAC-12, or ACC, come calling to some of the top schools remaining in the Big 12, it will be tough to keep this conference together.
Could some Big 12 football programs wind up falling into the hands of the AAC?
It’s not admirable right now to be in the position of Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby with all that has happened in the past couple of weeks. Bowlsby watched the likes of the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners leave the Big 12 for the SEC in what seemed like the blink of an eye.
Texas and Oklahoma leaving the Big 12 for the SEC could really set of a domino reaction that will continue to shake the college sports landscape. But it’s anyone’s best guess at this point as to where the eight remaining schools will land, or if the Big 12 will manage to band together at least for another decade or so.
We do know that the AAC would be a lot happier from their own administration’s perspective to get most Big 12 schools in the mix than the programs in this conference currently would be.
Here’s a look into three of the eight remaining Big 12 programs that the AAC would love to add soon if possible for their administration.
