Texas Tech

Among the bigger athletic brands of the eight schools remaining in the Big 12 you could find the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Two of the schools on this list have decently big athletic brands, and are pretty well-rounded athletic programs as a whole, but just aren’t of the caliber of a Texas or Oklahoma. That is true in terms of financial value and overall results in competition.

Texas Tech does bring a solid men’s basketball, baseball, and occasionally a strong football program to the table. And it might only be a matter of time before Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt tries his hand with a new football head coach. Former Utah State Aggies head coach Matt Wells has not worked out well thus far for the Red Raiders.

If Texas Tech does manage to turnaround the results on the football field, then this would be one of the most valuable schools remaining in the Big 12 for any other conference around college sports to add. Texas Tech became a nationally relevant basketball program in the past decade, and baseball is often a national contender.

This brand is also big enough with a sizable enough fan base to make it one of the biggest and best if this school were to land in the AAC. Imagine a program like the Tulsa Golden Hurricane and/or SMU Mustangs trying to compare the size and scope of fan bases in almost any sport compared to Texas Tech.

If this were something that happened, the AAC would be much happier about the move than Texas Tech likely would be.
