Texas Football: 3 reasons Hudson Card should be the starter
Pressure taken off of the quarterback with such a stacked backfield
What looks to be the strongest position group in particular for the Longhorns this fall is running back. And it might not be close. After Sark and the Longhorns landed a commitment out of the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason from the former Alabama Crimson Tide sophomore running back Keilan Robinson, the confidence in this position group took off.
Texas has a stacked running back room this fall. And given the run-first philosophy of Sark’s offensive schemes to break down opposing defenses, Card should have more room to operate and read secondaries effectively.
You can’t overemphasize how important the duo of star sophomore running back Bijan Robinson and junior Roschon Johnson will be for whichever quarterback is the starter this fall. Bijan is going to gash pretty much every defense he faces, as he is one of the very best running backs in the entire country.
And Roschon brings the level of versatility to the table required to help plug any gaps around either Thompson or Card. There are so many options that Texas will have at running back this fall that Sark might elect to often run two out of the backfield on many downs.
With a very strong and potent supporting cast potentially lining up around Card, he should have a lot of pressure taken off of his shoulders early on if he is the starter this season.
