Another true edge rusher that Texas has in the fold this fall is the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish junior and ex-blue-chip recruit Ovie Oghoufo. This being his fourth season of his college career, Oghoufo looks primed to break onto the scene in what could be a more prominent role for him on the Forty Acres compared to his time in South Bend.

That’s not to say, though, that Oghoufo wasn’t very effective in pass rushing situations for head coach Brian Kelly and the Fighting Irish in each of the last two seasons. Over the course of the last two seasons, Oghoufo was on the field for around 120 snaps in pass rushing situations at Notre Dame.

That resulted in five sacks and eight additional quarterback hurries. All told, that gave Oghoufo a pressure rate around 10.8 percent from the past two seasons at Notre Dame combined. That immediately puts him among the top in that category among pass rushers for Texas.

If Oghoufo is on the field in pass rushing situations for 200+ snaps this fall, then his production should explode. He might not be the set in stone starter at either the JACK linebacker position or at defensive end, but getting at least 200 snaps in pass rushing situations this season isn’t out of the question.

Oghoufo should be an impact player right away for Texas. He was a very underrated find for the Longhorns out of the transfer portal this offseason. What he brings to the table for Texas (outside of his pass rushing numbers) are four pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, five tackles for loss, and 33 combined tackles.
