Wide receiver and quarterback are two of the position groups that have the most question marks heading into the regular season for the Longhorns. Quarterback doesn’t even have a starter figured out yet, although that decision should come down soon.

Meanwhile, wideout just isn’t getting a whole lot of players stepping up on a consistent basis since the start of spring ball. Texas also didn’t apparently have the best showing from the wideouts in the first fall scrimmage.

One of the few wideouts that was a bright spot for Sark and the Longhorns in the initial fall scrimmage last weekend was the former walk-on and 6-foot and 185-pound junior slot receiver Kai Money. As really one of the two experienced wideouts that could play in the slot or Texas this fall that was healthy and playing in the first fall scrimmage, Money had some of his stock rise by nature.

There aren’t many other options that Texas has in the fold at slot receiver with any game experience. The fact that Money was the most consistent wideout that stood out for Texas in the first scrimmage just helps his case.

It’s hard to see Money going through the non-conference schedule without key at least a few key game reps each passing weekend. His opportunity to continue to elevate his role for the Longhorns should arrive this fall.

Money is likely going to start out the regular season behind the former five-star recruit and redshirt sophomore Jordan Whittington in the slot. But given the past injury concerns with Whittington, it might not be long before Money is thrust into an even bigger role.
