Harold Perkins, LB

There’s no doubt that the linebacker that should be at the top of the board for this position group for the Longhorns 2022 class is the five-star Cy Park product Harold Perkins.

Texas looks to now be falling behind the likes of the LSU Tigers and rival Texas A&M Aggies since the conclusion of visit season two months ago. In the race to land a commitment from Perkins, Texas still has some time. But the Longhorns are going to need to really show something on the field this fall and blow Perkins away with at least one more visit to Austin.

That’s a lot to ask considering how much Perkins is getting prioritized by so many other top tier programs. But Texas has to put in a real effort to try and win over the interests of Perkins in the coming months.

At the moment, Texas does look to sit with a top group of about three or four schools that namely includes Texas A&M and LSU. But we shouldn’t overlook the Oregon Ducks and Florida Gators as some of the schools that still remain in the mix for Perkins.

The two official visits that Perkins currently has lined up for the fall are with Oregon (Nov. 26) and Florida (Sep. 17). And his latest visit was an unofficial with head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies back on July 31.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Perkins take multiple visits this fall and heading into the winter months with this top trio of Texas, Texas A&M, and LSU. But Texas has some ground to make up here by most indications.

The two expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions in for Perkins at this point have his commitment landing with Texas A&M. And the Rivals FutureCast also has all of their analysts and publishers picking Perkins to commit to the Aggies.
