Wide Receiver

Outside Receiver 1: Joshua Moore

The one sure thing that the Longhorns have among the outside receivers this fall is the former four-star recruit and redshirt junior Joshua Moore. As one of the leading receivers for Texas last fall, Moore has a lot of momentum coming back this year.

If Moore can take another step forward this season, then he could truly become one of the most effective wideouts in the Big 12. And the ceiling for him looks very high this fall with Sark instituting this new offensive scheme.

A lot of how Moore plays this fall will hinge on how the eventual starting quarterback is able to effectively spread the ball around in the passing game. Moore had a good connection with Sam Ehlinger, but we’ll see how he does with whoever is next up at quarterback.

Outside Receiver 2: Troy Omeire

Depending on how the dominos fall in the slot for the Longhorns, we could see the former four-star recruit and redshirt freshman wideout Troy Omeire move up to the first team in camp by Week 1. In the first fall scrimmage, though, Omeire was playing on the outside with the second-team unit.

Omeire showed that he could truly be a star outside receiver for the Longhorns in camp the past two offseasons. But the key for him is to get back a certain level of confidence in recovering from a season-ending knee injury last year.

Slot Receiver: Jordan Whittington

I will say that this could be a coin flip for Sark and the Longhorns this fall as to whether it will be incoming freshman and the former Michigan Wolverines commit Xavier Worthy as the starting slot receiver or redshirt sophomore Jordan Whittington. In the first fall scrimmage, and throughout much of this week in fall practice, Worthy got the first-team reps out of the slot and Whittington was on the outside.

As long as he can stay healthy, Whittington would be the most potent and proven option out of the slot. That is especially true with the departure of former junior wideout Jake Smith to the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason. Worthy certainly has a great chance to be the starter out of the slot, though.
