Texas Football: 3 players that were drastically underutilized by Herman
Armanti Foreman, WR
Another wideout that certainly had some inconsistencies on the Forty Acres, but didn’t get the production that he should have under Herman was the former four-star recruit, Armanti Foreman. Herman only got to coach up Foreman for one season, which was coincidentally his first as Texas head coach back in 2017.
And at that time, Herman gave a good portion of the reigns of the play-calling duties over to former offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Tim Beck. Although Beck would later lose those play-calling duties in 2018, the lack of usage for Foreman in the passing game during the 2017 campaign could certainly be traced partly back to him.
The Texas passing game as a whole struggled for much of the 2017 campaign. As Texas tried to figure out whether Sam Ehlinger or Shane Buechele was the answer behind center, the wide receivers struggled to produce at a high level.
Finishing up the 2017 campaign with 31 catches for 280 yards (nine yards per catch) and four touchdowns, Foreman didn’t have his most productive campaign as a senior. In fact, Foreman saw his receiving yards cut by nearly 200 between his junior and senior seasons.
Foreman was the highest-graded receiver, by a good margin, for Texas during the 2017 campaign. But he wasn’t even one of the two most frequently targeted wideouts for the Longhorns during the 2017 season.
