In a post on his Instagram page on Aug. 25, one of the top targets of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class and elite five-star North Shore cornerback Denver Harris announced that there could be another round of finalist cuts coming soon. More specifically, the Houston product looks to be announcing his top two finalist schools soon.

It is presumed at this point that his top two will include the Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama seems to have all of the momentum at the moment, a trend the Longhorns are hoping to reverse heading into the fall. But when Alabama is finding this type of momentum with a top prospect, it’s usually really difficult to slow down.

All that Texas can really do by now is show an improved product on the field this fall. Harris isn’t going to be impressed by much else at this point it seems. The same could be said for a number of other top-tier targets remaining for the Longhorns 2022 class (i.e. five-star wideouts Kevin Coleman and Evan Stewart).

Texas football will have to claw and scrap to beat out Alabama to land 5-Star CB Denver Harris

Texas couldn’t do much better on the defensive side of the ball at this point in the 2022 class than landing a commitment from Harris, though. For Texas to get the interests of Harris back from Alabama, it will be the battle of a lifetime for his top recruiters.

The top recruiters that Texas has pursuing Harris are new cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph and special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks.

Outside of Alabama, it looks like the biggest competition to land among the top two for Harris could be the LSU Tigers and Texas A&M Aggies. Although, it would be pretty surprising to see either LSU or Texas A&M beat out the Longhorns to get among the top two finalists schools for Harris.

Harris took an unofficial visit with Texas A&M back in June. And he used three of his official visits in the same month to see Texas, Alabama, and LSU.

We’ll see where the chips lie with Harris in the coming weeks. With this potential narrowing of his finalist schools coming down so fast entering the fall, a commitment decision might not be so far in the future either.

Texas currently holds commitments from 17 prospects in the 2022 class. There is also a potential commit to watch on the afternoon of Aug. 26 in the form of four-star Southaven (MS) defensive lineman Aaron Bryant.
