Texas Football: A&M DB thinks Longhorns ‘suck’ with coaching situation
Texas football and the Lone Star Showdown rival Texas A&M Aggies are going to be able to revive the rivalry once the Longhorns are able to officially make the jump from the Big 12 to compete in the SEC. And the rivalry talk is already starting to heat up between Texas and Texas A&M in the media and fan discussion in a big way.
But this talk is even extending to one of the current Aggies players. In an interview with Barrett Sallee of CBS Sports this week, senior Texas A&M defensive back Leon O’Neal Jr. mentioned his true feelings on the Longhorns.
O’Neal clearly doesn’t feel an overwhelming level of respect for the Longhorns’ coaching situation. He talked about how Texas will continue to “suck” until the football program finds the right head coach to provide more success in the win column.

O’Neal did also tab that “the sky is the limit” essentially with all of the resources that the Longhorns bring to the table for the football program. This is a usual shot that O’Neal takes at the Longhorns upon the move for the athletic program from the Big 12 to the SEC.
While we don’t know exactly when the Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners will make the jump officially from the Big 12 to compete in the SEC, the Lone Star Showdown will still be reignited much sooner than we thought otherwise. And O’Neal tabbed before that the Aggies aren’t scared of playing the Longhorns whenever this rivalry does start back up.
O’Neal is one of the more experienced defensive players returning for the Aggies in 2021. He’s registered more than 100 career combined tackles, seven tackles for loss, no sacks, four interceptions, and seven pass breakups, over the course of the last three seasons in College Station.
Texas A&M does have a bit more hype ahead of the start of the 2021 season than Texas. But both teams are ranked inside the preseason top 25 polls. There will be a lot on the line for both squads this fall, as this could be the final time the programs are in separate conferences for a good while.
Texas is set to open up the regular season slate at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Sep. 4 against the No. 23 ranked Louisiana Ragin-Cajuns. Meanwhile, Texas A&M is set to open up the regular season on Sep. 4 at home at Kyle Field against the Kent State Golden Flashes.
