Texas Football: 4-Star OL Kam Dewberry on critical visit this weekend
This will be a big weekend for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff with a handful of top targets of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class on campus for visits for the season opener. No. 21 ranked Texas is set to open up the regular season slate on the afternoon of Sep. 4 at home against head coach Billy Napier and the No. 23 ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.
One of the top targets of the Longhorns 2022 class that will be on campus for the season opener against Louisiana this weekend is the touted four-star Atascocita offensive tackle, Kam Dewberry. This 6-foot-4 and 315-pound Humble, TX, native is one of the top remaining uncommitted targets for the Longhorns at a position of need in the 2022 class.
Texas does hold commitments from the likes of four-star Frisco interior offensive lineman Cole Hutson and three-star Westlake interior offensive lineman Connor Robertson. But Texas clearly does need help in the 2022 class at the offensive tackle position.
That’s what makes recruitments like the one featuring the in-state blue-chip Dewberry so critical for the Longhorns heading into the fall.
And Mike Roach of Horns247 confirmed on his Twitter timeline on the night of Sep. 3 that Dewberry will be in Austin for the matchup this weekend between Texas and Louisiana on Sep. 4. This is big for the Longhorns to get Dewberry to campus for a visit during a critical game weekend.

This is also the first visit for Dewberry to the Forty Acres since his unofficial back in June. Since that time, he’s taken visits with the likes of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas A&M Aggies. Dewberry also has an official visit on the books with the Oklahoma Sooners for Sep. 17.
Dewberry was in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex this week for Atascocita’s key Sep. 3 showdown with the Allen Eagles. Atascocita was able to snap Allen’s 84-game winning streak and 122-game home winning streak with a stunning triumph entering the weekend.
Moreover, it will be key if Texas can make some progress in the recruitment of Dewberry on Sep. 4. A win over Louisiana would go a long way to making progress in the recruitments of both Dewberry and four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau, who are both in Austin for visits in the Louisiana game.
New Texas offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood could really use a big win on the recruiting trail for the Longhorns 2022 class with someone like Dewberry. But Texas will have to fight off some of the other finalist schools in pursuit of Dewberry’s commitment.
Other schools to watch among the finalists for Dewberry are the Alabama Crimson Tide, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M.
Dewberry is definitely one of the more important blue-chip offensive line targets left for the Longhorns 2022 class at this point. He ranks as the nation’s No. 108 2022 high school prospect, No. 10 offensive tackle, and No. 20 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).
