Rueben Owens, RB

The only commit to ever be in the Longhorns 2023 class up to this point is the elite five-star El Campo (TX) running back Rueben Owens. Texas landed a commitment from Owens in the first couple of months following the hire of Sark as the head coach back in winter.

But it only took a few months for Owens to re-open his recruitment following his initial commitment to the Longhorns 2023 class. Since he decommitted from Texas back in June, the 2023 class was left without any pledges.

This is not to say that Texas is out of the running with Owens, though. If there was a top group of schools to be named at the moment for Owens, Texas would likely be right in the thick of it. But the number of schools to compete with on the recruiting trail to land Owens is growing.

Competing schools such as Alabama, Ohio State, and Texas A&M, are starting to make a real run at Owens. Texas will have to show out on the field this fall to prove that Owens should make the Forty Acres his official landing spot at the next level.

The good news with Owens is that Texas looks to sit in a good position with him following the win over Louisiana this weekend. He mentioned that this is a “great win” and that the “Sark effect on offense was fire”. Owens clearly has a positive impression of where the Longhorns are headed after the win over the Cajuns.
