Texas Football: 3 key visiting prospects this weekend vs. Rice
Brenen Thompson, WR
Perhaps the prospect that will be on campus this weekend for Sark and the Longhorns that could have a commitment coming the soonest is the touted four-star Spearman (TX) wide receiver, Brenen Thompson. This speedy and elusive track star hailing out of Spearman, TX, is one of the top skill position targets remaining on the board for the Longhorns at this point in time.
Thompson now has a top three consisting of the Longhorns, Texas A&M, and the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Back on Sep. 4, Thompson had an unofficial visit with head coach Mike Gundy, offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn, and Oklahoma State when they faced the FCS Missouri State Bears.
Among the three visitors on this list, Thompson is the lone official visitor for the weekend. And it might not be all that long before a decision is set to come down from Thompson. A little bit less than three months from the start of the Early Signing Period, Thompson has to be getting very close to a decision.
Oklahoma State and Texas A&M do look to still be alive in the race to land a commitment from Thompson. But second-year wide receivers coach Andre Coleman and new special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks are doing good work as the top recruiters after Thompson on the recruiting trail.
If there was a leader to be named right now for Thompson, you would have to probably consider Texas in that spot. Texas was once in a big battle with Oklahoma State and the Clemson Tigers, but head coach Dabo Swinney saw his program fall off in this recruitment since the summer.
If Texas were to land a commitment from Thompson in the next couple of months, he would be the highest-rated wideout in the 2022 class.
