Harold Perkins, LB

Unlike Campbell, the Longhorns have a long way to go to get to the top of the list of frontrunners among the finalist schools for the elite five-star Cy Park linebacker Harold Perkins. It is the in-state rival Texas A&M Aggies that currently look to have the lead with the Cypress, TX, native Perkins.

But this still looks like a recruitment that Texas can win over in the end. It will take a very strong effort from the coaching staff in continuing to build the relationship with Perkins, along with some real success and positive strides from the defensive front (specifically the linebacking corps of course) for this elite linebacker to really be intrigued by Texas over the rest of the competition.

Perkins was originally set to visit with Texas A&M for their game in College Station against the New Mexico Lobos this weekend. But a move in his game with Cy Park High School closer to Austin instead of College Station caused him to move his visit to the Forty Acres. That could be a lucky break for Texas.

Texas doesn’t have a true blue-chip linebacker that comes even close to matching the talent level that Perkins bring to the table. He ranks as the nation’s No. 14 2022 high school prospect, top overall linebacker, and No. 4 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).

Texas has to hope that this will be a turning point for them in the recruitment of Perkins to win him over from the likes of the LSU Tigers, Texas A&M, Florida Gators, Oregon Ducks, etc.
