Texas Football: Elite 5-Star OG Devon Campbell visiting vs. Rice
A bevy of important visitors that are also key targets of the 2022 and 2023 Texas football recruiting classes will be on campus in the next few home games this fall. That includes a few important targets visiting this weekend for the meeting for Texas and new head coach Steve Sarkisian at home against the Rice Owls.
Sark and the Longhorns put together a solid 2022 class thus far, but there is still more work to be done. Texas has yet to land a single five-star commit in the 2022 class, and the 2023 class has yet to land its first commit. But it might not be long before that time arrives for Sark and the Longhorns to both get the first commit in the 2023 class and the initial five-star commit in the 2022 class.
Set to host multiple blue-chip targets of the Longhorns 2022 and 2023 class for the Rice game, this weekend could be a critical step forward with all of these high school prospects.
5-Star OG and key Texas football target Devon Campbell visiting vs. Rice
Texas is reportedly (per Horns247, paid content) set to have the elite five-star Bowie offensive guard Devon Campbell on an unofficial visit this weekend for the Rice game. This will be the first visit for Campbell to Texas, officially or unofficially, since he put this school in his top five two months ago.
It will be huge for the Longhorns and new offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood to make a positive impression on Campbell on this weekend. In a few weeks, Campbell is set to officially visit Flood’s former employer, specifically on Oct. 2 with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The lone top recruiter specifically pursuing Campbell for the Longhorns is Flood. Texas likely has a good amount of effort getting put in to this recruitment by Sark himself. But this one is on Flood to be able to win over in the end.
Campbell is one of the two or three most important prospects remaining on the board for the Longhorns 2022 class. He ranks as the nation’s No. 12 2022 high school prospect, the top overall interior offensive lineman, and the No. 3 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).
