Ex-4-Star CB commit Jaylon Guilbeau trending back to Texas football
One of the more hotly discussed targets of late for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class, four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau, is also a former commit. The 5-foot-11.5 and 175-pound blue-chip defensive back looks to be one of the more important defensive targets for Texas in the months leading up to the Early Signing Period.
New head coach Steve Sarkisian once held the commitment of Guilbeau in the Longhorns 2022 class, but he announced his decommitment back on July 21. But Texas kept making a strong push to get the commitment of Guilbeau back in the past two months or so to try and keep an edge over competing schools in his recruitment.
Guilbeau was also pursued by the TCU Horned Frogs and Texas A&M Aggies since he decommitted from Texas nearly two months ago.

But according to a report from Horns247 on Sep. 19 (paid content), Texas is starting to look like the firm leader once again for Guilbeau. TCU has reportedly seen a lot of the momentum the school once held with Guilbeau fade off in the last few weeks.
And then, head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies are reportedly prioritizing other top secondary targets for the 2022 class.
This leaves Texas in a very favorable position with Guilbeau in the coming weeks and months ahead of the start of the Early Signing Period. Texas still needs to keep up the effort and attention to building this relationship with Guilbeau.
New Texas cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph and special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks need to keep up this good work with Guilbeau as his top recruiters. If the momentum stays in Texas’ favor here, it might not be all that long before Guilbeau lands back in the Longhorns 2022 class.
Texas also had Guilbeau on campus for a key visit for the regular season opening win over the No. 23 ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns back on Sep. 4. That could’ve sparked an important turnaround for Texas in pursuit of the commitment of Guilbeau.
Texas is up to 21 commits in the 2022 class now after a hot stretch on the recruiting trail landing prospects along the defensive line. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 3 in the nation and in the top spot in the Big 12 ahead of the Oklahoma Sooners.
