The attention at the wide receiver position in the 2022 Texas football recruiting class at the moment has really boiled down to two targets. One was on campus for an official visit last weekend in the four-star Spearman wideout Brenen Thompson. And the other is the elite five-star Frisco-Liberty wideout Evan Stewart.

Now that new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns got a key official visit in with Thompson, it’s time to turn to getting Stewart on the books officially for one too. The writing is on the wall, though, that Sark and the Longhorns will soon get their shot to host Stewart on an official visit during a big game weekend in Austin.

According to a Horns247 report from Sep. 20 (paid content), the Longhorns are looking to get Stewart scheduled for an official visit on the weekend of Oct. 16. That is the weekend when Texas hosts head coach Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Cowboys at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, specifically on Oct. 16.

As maybe the most important remaining target left out there for Sark and the Longhorns 2022 class, it is critical to have a positive visit during a big game weekend with Stewart this fall. Texas is pushing for Stewart when the likes of the Florida Gators, LSU Tigers, and Alabama Crimson Tide won’t be letting up either.

Texas football reportedly working to get 5-Star WR Evan Stewart for an official visit on Oklahoma State weekend

Texas, Alabama, LSU, and Florida look to be the frontrunners at this point in the race to land a commitment from Stewart. And Alabama already has an official visit on the books this fall for Stewart to make his way to Tuscaloosa. Stewart’s official visit to Alabama is scheduled for Nov. 6.

If Texas can get a big win over the Pokes and get some real momentum rolling on the field in conference play, it will go a long way to reeling back in the commitment of Stewart. The DFW-area product was once committed to the Longhorns back in February and early March. But Texas only saw the commitment of Stewart hang around for roughly one month ahead of spring.

The weekend of the Oklahoma State game is really building up to be a big one for visitors the Longhorns are hosting. Texas already has two blue-chips visiting that weekend for the Oklahoma State game, with four-star OL Earnest Greene and four-star Arizona State athlete commit Larry Turner-Gooden booked for visits.

This could turn into a major visit weekend, maybe the most important one of the regular season, for the Longhorns 2022 class. This timing looks to be great if Stewart on campus for the Oklahoma State game.

Stewart is the highest-ranked remaining target on the board for the Longhorns 2022 class. He ranks as the nation’s No. 3 2022 high school prospect, and the top overall wide receiver and prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).
