There is a pretty constant ongoing conversation with a key target of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class and Oregon Ducks three-star offensive tackle commit Cameron Williams in the last few months. The Duncanville High School product Williams committed to Oregon back on July 1, but that hasn’t stopped the Texas coaching staff from slowing down in pursuit of flipping his pledge.

New head coach Steve Sarkisian and offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood look to continue making the recruitment of Williams a priority this fall. There is a sizable need in the Longhorns 2022 class to add some numbers at the offensive tackle position.

Even if Texas were to land a commitment from the elite five-star Bowie OL Devon Campbell, there would still be a looming need at the offensive tackle position in the 2022 class. Losing both Williams and five-star Summer Creek (TX) offensive tackle Kelvin Bucks to Oregon over the summer was detrimental to the depth in the trenches in the Longhorns 2022 class.

But it looks like there is some level of hope for Texas to continue to make headway with Williams this fall. Texas did host Williams for an official visit back in late June, and getting him back to campus this fall for a game weekend could be big.

Geographically, it’s clearly a lot easier for the DFW-Metroplex native to attend a game on the Forty Acres than it is in Eugene, OR.

Not only does it feel like the Texas coaching staff is putting more effort into keeping in contact with Williams compared to the fellow Oregon commit Banks, there seems to be a greater chance of flipping his commitment when it’s all said and done.

If nothing else, Williams should be noticing that there’s a ton of potential with the Longhorns 2022 class, and that there’s a shot for him to make an early impact with Texas. Early in the regular season, Texas is struggling in protection. This could be an area where Williams could plug a need for the Longhorns right away.

If Texas were to flip the commitment of Williams, he would be the first true offensive tackle commit in the 2022 class. He’s got a pretty college-ready skill set and frame at 6-foot-5 and 360-pounds, so this would be a big get for Texas if his commitment can be flipped in the coming weeks/months.
