The news that the 2022 Texas football recruiting class was looking for to boost the offensive line for this group did not arrive on the afternoon of July 1. Texas was looking like it was in a good position to get a commitment from the towering three-star 6-foot-5 and 360-pound Duncanville offensive tackle, Cam Williams, on July 1, but that’s not what wound up happening.

New offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and head coach Steve Sarkisian now looked to get in on the recruitment of Williams too late, though. Williams announced on July 1 that he would be committing to head coach Mario Cristobal and the Oregon Ducks in the PAC-12 North.

Texas had momentum with Williams coming out of his official visit in Austin last weekend. He specifically had an official visit with Sark, Flood, and the Longhorns on June 25. His official visit came with the Ducks back on June 4. And that visit with Oregon apparently made a good enough impression on Williams to keep his commitment through the resumption of the dead period this month.

Williams did look to be one of the more sure things for Texas at the outset of the dead period this week. He was one of the multiple offensive line targets of the Longhorns announcing his decision this week. But Texas did not get the win on this one.

Moving on from Cam Williams for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class

The commitment of Williams to Oregon dropped on his Twitter timeline on the evening of July 1. While Texas was anticipated to be the frontrunner for Williams’ commitment heading into the month of July, they’ll have to turn their attention elsewhere now.

Texas and Oregon were two of the more than 30 schools on Williams’ offer sheet. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet are the Miami Hurricanes, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Auburn Tigers, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans.

And Williams ranks as the nation’s No. 440 2022 high school prospect, No. 43 offensive tackle, and No. 61 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 84 offensive tackle and No. 117 prospect out of Texas.

A few of the other offensive line prospects that Texas can turn their attention to next include five-star Summer Creek offensive tackle Kelvin Banks, five-star Bowie offensive guard Devon Campbell, and five-star Atascocita offensive tackle Kam Dewberry.

Next. 3 commits Sark could miss out on this week. dark

Texas did start out the week on a high note by landing a commitment from the four-star Tyler Legacy (TX) running back Jamarion Miller. But they do need to respond strong to start building out a solid foundation in the trenches.
