Texas Football: 5-Star CB Denver Harris sets NSD decision date
The wait will go on for a good bit longer for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff to figure out what happens with one of the top targets in the 2022 Texas football recruiting class. The elite five-star North Shore cornerback Denver Harris looks like he will announce his decision on National Signing Day 2022.
That puts the decision date for Harris out roughly five more months. Considering the original expectation was that Harris would announce his decision this fall, this will require some patience from the top schools after Harris.
As it pertains to the Longhorns, though, this actually looks to be good news. If Harris were to announce his decision this fall, it was likely going to go against the Longhorns. The school that seemingly had all of the momentum with Harris entering the fall was the Alabama Crimson Tide and head coach Nick Saban.

But it appears that lead that the Crimson Tide once had with Harris has flattened out a good bit of late. Competing schools on the recruiting trail like Texas and the LSU Tigers now have appear to have a more even-keeled shot to win over the commitment of Harris when it’s all said and done.
It also appears to be a good sign that Harris decided to push back his decision date in the week following what looked to be a successful visit to Texas in the Big 12 opener win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders back on Sep. 25. That would indicate some level of traction here with the Longhorns.
There was always some level of appeal that Harris had with the Longhorns. But this appears to be more real traction with Harris still a ways out from his decision date.
It is important to note that these timelines can always change. It once looked like Harris was going to announce his decision this fall, and just a couple of visits might’ve changed his mindset moving forward.
Harris does seem to sit among a group of the most important remaining prospects on the board for the Longhorns 2022 class. That group would likely also include fellow elite five-star prospects and Bowie IOL Devon Campbell and Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart.
