Texas Football: 4 key DFW prospects visiting for Red River
Anthony Hill, LB
Potentially the top 2023 high school prospect that the Longhorns are hosting for Red River this weekend, especially out of the DFW Metroplex, is the elite five-star Denton-Ryan linebacker Anthony Hill.
If Texas isn’t able to land a commitment from the five-star 2022 Cy Park linebacker Harold Perkins when it’s all said and done, then it will be critical to get Hill in the 2023 class. And this responsibility is to fall on the likes of new special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks to make the right impression with Hill in the coming weeks and months. Banks is the top recruiter after Hill at this point.
It will also be up to first-year co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Jeff Choate and Pete Kwiatkowski to show that Hill could be a part of a promising defense for the future with the Longhorns. The lack of playmaking as a whole this fall from the Texas linebackers is something that must change if the Longhorns want to make some real progress with top prospects like Hill.
There is some major competition looming in the recruitment of Hill that Texas has to deal with. He was just in Baton Rouge last weekend with the LSU Tigers as they were upset by the Auburn Tigers at Death Valley. If Texas can show progress on defense and come away with the upset win over Oklahoma this weekend, this could be a real important marker in the recruiting timeline of Hill.
This could also be one of multiple visits during game weekends that Hill is present for when Texas is on the field. Texas has to take advantage of the opportunity coming their way with Hill. Other schools such as LSU and the Texas A&M Aggies will be waiting in the wings to land his commitment otherwise.
