Texas football holds edge with 4-Star Brenen Thompson on decision date
This could be a big week for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2022 Texas football recruiting class. In the midst of the week of the annual Red River Rivalry game against the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas is looking at a very impact week on the recruiting trail for the 2022 class. Texas is set to host multiple key targets of the 2022 and 2023 classes for Red River against the Sooners this weekend.
And there is a key target of the Longhorns 2022 class that is set to announce his decision on the evening/night of Oct. 6. The speedy and talented four-star Spearman (TX) athlete/wide receiver Brenen Thompson is set to make his commitment live on CBS Sports HQ on Oct. 6.
Thompson was one of the top wide receiver targets for Sark and the Longhorns since he was hired to be the next head coach. And Thompson’s recruitment really heated up during the summer, just ahead of his list of top three schools was dropped on Aug. 20.
Texas football sitting well with 4-Star WR Brenen Thompson on his decision day
The top three schools that remain in the running to get Thompson’s decision are the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Texas A&M Aggies, and Texas. But this feels like a recruitment that was the Longhorns’ to lose for the past couple of months.
As the coaching staff continued to push harder and harder to move the relationship along with Thompson, the feedback was seemingly more and more positive. The last visit that Thompson took was also an official with Texas back on Sep. 18.
Getting the last visit is usually a good thing ahead of any announcement like this.
Some other leading indicators that Texas could be getting good news with the announcement of Thompson this week lie in the analyst predictions. The three most recent expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions in for Thompson project his commitment to land with Texas.
All of the analysts and publishers that made a prediction in the Rivals FutureCast this week also picked Thompson to give his pledge to Texas.
Even a piece from an Oklahoma State recruiting analyst at 247Sports this week (paid content) sounded like he was thinking Texas was in the best spot to land Thompson. That tends to be the theme of the week ahead of his decision.
If Texas were to land a commitment from Thompson, it would bring the 2022 class within one of two-dozen prospects. Texas could also get their second blue-chip wide receiver commit in the 2022 class if Thompson pledges on Oct. 6.
