There is a big reason why Sark, new offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood, and the Longhorns need to convert on a decent amount of talent in the trenches in-state for the 2022 recruiting cycle. Texas needs to make some progress to land the likes of the elite five-star Bowie IOL Devon Campbell and potentially flip five-star Summer Creek offensive tackle Kelvin Banks from the Oregon Ducks.

More than likely, Texas can realistically land a commitment from Campbell by the time the Early Signing Period arrives. A solid run on the field and on the recruiting trail this fall could mean that Texas makes enough progress with Campbell to get his pledge ahead of mid-December.

But with an apparent thinner amount of depth along the offensive line in the state of Texas for the 2023 recruiting cycle, it is huge to make the right impression with talented four-star Westlake offensive tackle TJ Shanahan for the Oklahoma State game this weekend.

Part of building the right supporting cast to prove to Manning that the Longhorns are the right fit for him moving forward is loading up on talent in the trenches. Texas has struggled mightily on parts of the offensive line this fall. Landing a commitment from Shanahan will be critical for Texas to keep talent from their own backyard in state in the 2023 class.

Texas does appear to be one of the early top schools for Shanahan. With him transferring to play for Westlake with a Texas commit in 2022 three-star offensive tackle Connor Robertson, it looks like the Longhorns are in a good spot with Shanahan right now.
