Texas Football: 5 overreactions from the meltdown loss vs. OK State
Bijan Robinson is amazing, but it’s time to spread some of the love
There is no doubt that star sophomore running back Bijan Robinson should be considered one of the top, if not the best overall, players at his position in the nation. But Sark’s weird patterns of usage of Bijan in the last two games did become problematic with the results that the Longhorns got against the Oklahoma schools.
Bijan was really good in this loss to Oklahoma State. He registered 21 carries for 135 rushing yards (6.4 yards per carry) and two rushing scores. Bijan also came up with three catches for 38 receiving yards and one touchdown catch.
On the season, Bijan now has 1,131 total yards from scrimmage and 13 total touchdowns. That’s good for best in the Big 12 in rushing yards, total yards from scrimmage, rushing touchdowns, and total touchdowns.
Where Sark needs to diversify the offense is with some other looks with running backs like junior Roschon Johnson and the former Alabama transfer sophomore Keilan Robinson involved. Roschon only got two carries for six yards in this meeting with Oklahoma State. And while Keilan got limited touches in this game, he was solid when he got the ball.
Keilan came up with 25 yards on a catch that was one of his two total touches in this game. Although he leads the team in yards per carry (with anyone over 20 attempts on the season), Keilan has only 27 touches so far.
Get Keilan’s speed and Roschon’s versatility involved in various parts of the game. Roschon could be solid in the red zone and Sark needs to get Keilan the ball more in the open field.
Bijan is great for the Longhorns, but Sark needs to turn to some other weapons when the Heisman contender isn’t getting a push on the ground when it matters down the stretch.
