Lander Barton, LB

If there is one 2022 prospect to watch for the Longhorns that seems likely to land in this class in the near future, it is the Utah native and four-star Brighton linebacker Lander Barton. After losing out on four-star linebacker Sebastian Cheeks to the North Carolina Tar Heels earlier this year, Texas is looking for help with this position group.

And it seems like a sizable gamble for Texas to put all of the hopes on landing a blue-chip linebacker in the 2022 class on winning over the commitment from the elite five-star Cy Park product Harold Perkins. While Texas is very much still in the running among Perkins’ top schools, it would be really tough to say they are the frontrunner at this point in time.

Getting a commitment from Barton would do a lot for the defensive front in the Longhorns 2022 class. Texas needs help at the linebacker position. And while it would be fantastic to get Perkins signed in this class, Texas needs to find more of a sure thing.

Barton is one of the faster-rising targets in the last few months with the Longhorns 2022 class. He had a successful official visit with the Longhorns back on Sep. 24. And the latest expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction has his commitment landing with Texas over the rest of the field.

There was a key visit to watch for Barton last weekend that came with the Utah Utes in their big win over the Arizona State Sun Devils. And there is one more official visit on the books for Barton at the moment, with the Oregon Ducks on Oct. 30. But it feels like Texas is close with this one. It is worth watching where this recruitment goes during the bye week.
