It is really crucial that Sark and the Longhorns do everything that they can to keep any wide receiver commits they have in the 2022 class in place through the Early Signing Period. That is especially true with the talented four-star Lewisville wideout Armani Winfield.

As another one of the early commits that Sark landed in the 2022 class came in the form of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex product Winfield, this is a key one to keep around. Winfield committed to Texas back on Jan. 12, 2021. That was just 10 days after Sark was hired with the Longhorns to replace former head coach Tom Herman.

The school that is competing with Texas on the recruiting trail right now to try and flip the commitment of Winfield is the Michigan State Spartans out of the Big Ten. Michigan State is putting a ton of time and energy into the recruitment of Winfield. That included last weekend when some of the Michigan State coaches visited Winfield for his high school game with Lewisville.

One of the last official visits Winfield took too was with Michigan State last offseason. He also had an unofficial visit with the Spartans during a game weekend earlier this month.

If Michigan State is able to eventually flip the commitment of Winfield, this saga will feel very similar to that of four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau. For roughly one year, Guilbeau was committed to Texas. But a strong late push from the TCU Horned Frogs was enough to flip Guilbeau’s commitment this fall.
