Texas Football: Longhorns, Aggies top two for 4-Star OT TJ Shanahan?
In the past few months, one of the faster-rising targets that is key for the 2023 Texas football recruiting class and new offensive line coach/offensive coordinator is the touted four-star Westlake interior offensive lineman TJ Shanahan. As Texas definitely needs to improve its depth along the offensive line in the next two recruiting classes, Shanahan is one target that the coaching staff must hit on that is out of their own backyard.
Shanahan is one of the key targets that the Longhorns are zoning in on to make sure he stays in-state with this program. Flood is really the lone top recruiter pursuing Shanahan, and the early signs look to be promising with the talented 6-foot-4 and 300-pound offensive lineman.
He was on multiple visits since transferring to Westlake High School back during the offseason. And Texas looks to continue to prioritize staying in communication with Shanahan on a regular basis to keep his interests in this program high moving forward.
According to a report from Horns247 (paid content) on Oct. 29., two of the programs that are doing the best job in staying in communication with Shanahan are Texas and the Texas A&M Aggies. That could be an indication of two of the top schools that are emerging right now in the race to land a commitment from Shanahan.

Texas A&M also got multiple visits out of Shanahan since in-person resumed once again around the college football recruiting landscape back in June. Some of the other emerging schools to watch at the moment in the recruitment of Shanahan are the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, and Oklahoma Sooners.
Shanahan was in attendance for the Red River Rivalry game between Texas and Oklahoma back on Oct. 9. And Oklahoma is putting some early effort into staying in contact with Shanahan. Meanwhile, LSU is expecting Shanahan for a visit during a game weekend this fall.
Never count out a school like Alabama that was in on the recruitment of Shanahan early on.
There are some other schools that could also stay in the race to land a commitment from Shanahan, especially with some of his ties back to the state of Florida. The Florida Gators got an unofficial visit from Shanahan back in June as he played his high school football in that state prior to transferring to Westlake.
Texas still has yet to land its first commit in the 2023 class that sticks. They did land a commitment from five-star El Campo running back Rueben Owens earlier this year. But Owens de-committed from Texas back in early summer.
