One player that truly just saw his game drop out from under him of late is senior cornerback Josh Thompson. At the outset of the season, it really looked like Thompson could emerge as the top cornerback for this secondary this fall. But those hopes really came down crashing during this losing streak.

Thompson and fellow senior cornerback D’Shawn Jamison were a potent duo at the position entering the season. But the two were mostly disappointing throughout Big 12 play. These two have shown the capability in the past in bits and pieces to make big plays on a consistent basis. And the experience is definitely there for them too.

Through the first four games of the regular season, Thompson registered one tackle for loss, just a couple of missed tackles, one interception, one fumble recovery, six stops, and gave up an NFL QBR less than 90. He also allowed just two yards after the catch and gave up 100 total receiving yards in the first four games.

Compare that to the last three games where Thompson had no tackles for loss, no picks, no forced fumbles or fumble recoveries, five missed tackles, roughly 20 yards allowed after the catch, and nearly 150 total receiving yards allowed, you see the difference in his performance of late. Thompson has run into a tougher set of matchups lately.

Oklahoma and Baylor have some very strong receiving corps and Oklahoma State is no slouch either. But the expectations were high at the outset of Big 12 play for Thompson and he has yet to live up to them.
