Dalton Brooks, WR/ATH

One of the most impressive athletes/wide receivers that the Longhorns offered early on for the 2023 class is the touted four-star Shiner (TX) product, Dalton Brooks. This talented and potent in-state product is also rapidly rising of late on the board for the Longhorns 2023 class. Brooks could be one of the top commits in the Longhorns 2023 class when it’s all said and done.

It didn’t take long for the likes of the Longhorns and Aggies to emerge as the top in-state schools for Brooks. But the approach that Texas is taking to eventually potentially land a commitment out of Brooks is different.

Texas is sending new safeties coach Blake Gideon after Brooks as essentially the lone recruiter among positional coaches from this staff. This is key right now for the Longhorns to clamp down on the recruitment of Brooks while the key offers keep rolling in his way.

The likes of the Penn State Nittany Lions, Ohio State Buckeyes, Auburn Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, etc. have all offered Brooks since the end of last offseason.

Texas is off to a good start in the 2023 class in terms of versatility in the secondary by landing a commitment from someone like Johnson that can play at corner or safety. But Brooks could bring a different level of versatility to the table being able to play at wide receiver, cornerback, or safety. He’s also made a lot of plays at running back for Shiner in the last two seasons.

All in all, it’s great to see the Longhorns getting a good early start on the pursuit of a commitment from Brooks in the 2023 class as one of his apparent top schools. He’s one of the most highly-touted 2023 prospects that currently holds a Texas offer. He ranks as the nation’s No. 48 2023 high school prospect, No. 5 athlete, and No. 9 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).
