Texas Football: 3 commits Sarkisian could get soon despite the losing skid
Matthew Golden, WR
There is a heavy emphasis placed on how the Longhorns will round out the 2022 class at the wide receiver position. It looks like Texas is essentially out on the elite five-star wide receiver Kevin Coleman. Granted, a chance still remains to make a late run if Texas gets some momentum going with Coleman in the very near future.
Most attention lies on the likes of the elite five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart. Texas needs to do all it can to keep Stewart from taking his talents to College Station to join the Texas A&M Aggies.
Yet, one emerging wide receiver target of late that is important to the Longhorns 2022 class is four-star Klein Cain product and former TCU Horned Frogs commit Matthew Golden. This 6-foot-1 and 195-pound Houston-area native already has offers from the likes of the LSU Tigers, Longhorns, and Minnesota Golden Gophers since he de-committed from TCU earlier this month.
Golden also recently visited Texas, and it was successful by all accounts. Texas still looks to be making progress with Golden despite some of the struggles on the field of late. And with the Michigan State Spartans and head coach Mel Tucker putting all they have into four-star Texas wide receiver commit Armani Winfield ahead of the Early Signing Period, Golden is an increasingly important target for Sark and second-year wide receivers coach Andre Coleman.
The other schools that appear to be in the mix for Golden at this point are the Baylor Bears, Houston Cougars, LSU, and Arkansas Razorbacks. Texas sits squarely in the mix to land his commitment ahead of the Early Signing Period but needs to close out strong here.
