In a pretty crazy turn of events, a former commit of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class, four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau looks to be trending back to the program. The current TCU Horned Frogs commit was the lone pledge in Texas’ 2022 class for a good while last offseason. And it appears that he could now be headed back to join the 2022 Texas recruiting class.

New head coach Steve Sarkisian and cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph wound up losing the commitment of Guilbeau in the Longhorns 2022 class back in July. He would announce his commitment to TCU on Sep. 26. But it wasn’t too long after that where TCU parted ways with longtime head coach Gary Patterson.

And it looks like that move by the Horned Frogs, along with the future risk of some of the coaching staff getting turned over depending on who the next head coaching hire is, made the status of Guilbeau’s commitment shakier. This is something that happens often when a coach departs midseason.

Texas football back to trending for 4-Star TCU CB commit Jaylon Guilbeau

The three most recent expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions all have Guilbeau’s commitment landing back with the Longhorns. A report from Horns247 on Nov. 17 (paid content) also indicates that people close to Guilbeau believe he could land back on the Forty Acres when it’s all said and done for his recruitment.

Guilbeau was originally a huge part of the Longhorns 2022 class. He originally committed to Texas last fall, when the staff that connected with him was largely comprised of former head coach Tom Herman and cornerbacks coach Jay Valai.

Texas has maintained a constant effort since the coaching staff turned over last offseason, though, to make Guilbeau one of their top priorities on the defensive side of the ball in the 2022 class. Those efforts looked to have potentially paid off if Texas is able to successfully flip Guilbeau’s commitment from TCU soon.

Guilbeau was on campus over the weekend for the Longhorns in the embarrassing overtime loss to the Kansas Jayhawks at home at DKR on Nov. 13. But that doesn’t appear to have shaken Guilbeau’s confidence in this staff moving forward.

The lone cornerback commit at the moment in the Longhorns 2022 class is three-star Louisiana native Ronald Lewis. And the two most important cornerback targets on the board at this point for the Longhorns 2022 class, outside of Guilbeau, are five-star North Shore product Denver Harris and four-star Little Elm product/Ohio State commit Terrance Brooks.
