The biggest position of need to fill in the Longhorns 2022 class just weeks out from the start of the Early Signing Period next month is at offensive tackle. Texas has yet to land a true blue-chip offensive tackle commit in the 2022 class up to this point, making it a huge position of need given the weakness we’ve seen at this spot this fall.

Texas has a big looming task ahead with how much the coaching staff is prioritizing the push to flip the commitment of the elite five-star Summer Creek (TX) offensive tackle Kelvin Banks from the Oregon Ducks. And maybe that is something that will work out in the end. But the chances aren’t too likely at this point.

Moreover, that is why there are still some big offensive tackle prospects of note at this point for the Longhorns outside of Banks. One name that could now be added to the list is a former blue-chip offensive tackle target of first-year Texas offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood is the four-star Florida OT commit and King High School product Tony Livingston.

When Flood was the offensive line coach with the Alabama Crimson Tide, he was one of the top recruiters after Livingston. Alabama originally offered Livingston back in February 2020, when Flood was still entrenched as the offensive line coach.

If Texas wanted to go after someone like Livingston, it would make sense to revitalize the connection between him and Flood.

Any shot that Livingston’s commitment to Florida is shaken by the firing of Mullen should be taken advantage of by the Longhorns to try and make him a pitch to flip. Texas can offer Livingston immediate playing time if he shows out right away. Granted, at 6-foot-4 and 260-pounds, Livingston would still need to put on some size before he could challenge for playing time early in his career with any Power Five program.
