Texas Football: 3 overreactions from the deficient loss to WVU
Keilan Robinson is one of the most underutilized players in the Big 12
I mentioned on the last part of this list that most of the negative takes regarding the Longhorns at this point of the season are hard to argue with. And that is especially true on the matter of Texas not using the former Alabama Crimson Tide blue-chip recruit and redshirt sophomore running back Keilan Robinson.
Despite showing what he can really do in this loss to West Virginia on a very explosive play that resulted in a 49-yard rushing touchdown, Sark still gave Keilan a single-digit number of carries in this game.
Keilan finished up this game with an impressive team-high 111 rushing yards on nine carries, one rushing touchdown, and 16 receiving yards on one catch, with no receiving touchdowns. The insane speed and elusiveness that Keilan brings to the table in the open was on full display in this game.
That is further evidenced by the fact that Keilan came up with five missed tackles forced, three first downs, more than 70 yards after initial contact, and had a solid game blocking in the process.
Why Sark doesn’t want to give Keilan more touches this season is really beyond me at this point. Star sophomore running back Bijan Robinson is out for the rest of the season and freshman Jonathon Brooks is hurt too.
Keilan is definitely one of the most explosive playmakers that Sark has in his arsenal at the skill positions this season. He just doesn’t want to use him for some reason. I do get that Keilan is not the type of running back to gash teams between the tackles or straight up the middle on short-yardage plays. But that doesn’t explain why he only gets nine carries in this game.
