Big 12 Football: 3 best transfer landing spots for Spencer Rattler
Arizona State
There are a few programs that seem like very obvious landing spots that could use a quarterback like Rattler that he has connections with around the college football landscape. And one of the more potentially intriguing Power Five landing spots of Rattler out of the transfer portal is with head coach Herm Edwards and the Arizona State Sun Devils in the PAC-12.
Arizona State was actually one of the first trio of programs to send Rattler a scholarship offer. And while not much is the same with the Sun Devils compared to when he was initially offered more than six years ago (insane right?), traction could still remain.
Edwards has proved to be an excellent recruiter since he first arrived as the Sun Devils head coach ahead of the 2018 season. The problem is that Arizona State was just living up to some of the preseason hype in the last couple of years.
Arizona State was one of the PAC-12 South favorites over the course of the last two seasons. But they haven’t made an appearance in the PAC-12 Championship Game, falling short to the Utah Utes and head coach Kyle Whittingham, in each campaign.
The one factor that could really sway the decision of Rattler to Arizona State is the NFL Draft status of junior quarterback Jayden Daniels. If Daniels decides to try for the NFL Draft after this season, then it really opens the door for Arizona State to get a commitment from Rattler for next year.
While there is a chance that Arizona State could try to pitch Rattler to compete with Daniels for the starting job, this might not be the path that he is looking for out of the transfer portal.
All in all, Rattler is an Arizona native and the Sun Devils would make the most sense for him if he returned to his home state.
