While one of the most pressing needs for the Longhorns coaching staff in the transfer portal this offseason is finding help in the pass rush, linebacker could use a lot of help too. Especially if the Longhorns wind up losing senior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown in 2022, this position group is going to need a ton of help.

This is why Texas should make it a priority now to go out and get linebacker help out of the transfer portal so early in their offseason before the turn of the calendar year. One potential transfer portal target that I really like at the linebacker position that Texas could get in contact with right now is the former UNLV Rebels 6-foot-2 and 235-pound junior Jacoby Windmon.

Texas would be getting an offer out to a very versatile and proven linebacker that can play on the inside or up the middle for this group next year. And there could also be some depth restored that could be a good fit at the Mike or Sam linebacker position. Texas does have Luke Brockermeyer and Ovie Oghoufo coming back, but there’s not a whole lot of clarity around them.

This is where targeting Windmon comes into play. Texas can get a linebacker that just flat out makes plays, and more than most of the linebackers on the roster now from his time with UNLV. Windmon consistently improved during his three years at UNLV.

I really like what Windmon could bring to the table for the Longhorns. So far this season, he’s registered roughly a dozen tackles for loss, seven sacks, one pass breakup, two forced fumbles, more than two dozen run stuffs, and a whopping 50 stops.

Windmon does have some issues with missed tackles, but Texas just needs some flat-out playmakers at the linebacker position and he could fill that role.
