Former Texas S DeShon Elliott trying to recruit Quinn Ewers
The hot discussion of the week continues to be the pursuit by the Texas football program of the former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman quarterback and elite five-star recruit Quinn Ewers. A former Texas commit himself, Ewers is the most talked-about target ever for this program in the NCAA Transfer Portal era.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian is hoping to get an injection of energy to this Longhorns program by way of adding Ewers out of the transfer portal. Adding a commitment from Ewers out of the transfer portal would be an immediate jolt to this program, and it could bring some very fruitful results with it on the recruiting trail.
And there seem to be all hands on deck to get Ewers to the Forty Acres with a potential decision looming large by Dec. 13. Ewers is set to be in Austin this weekend for a visit, which looks like it will be his last before a decision is set to drop.
There is one former Longhorns star that is also recruiting Ewers to come to the Forty Acres in 2022. Former All-American Texas safety DeShon Elliott gave his support to Ewers on social media, trying to get him to land with the Longhorns with a post on Dec. 8.

Elliott tweeted at Ewers on the afternoon of Dec. 8 saying “bring a Big 12 title and a Natty to Austin bro!” This type of attention is a sign of what could be to come for Ewers if he does land on the Forty Cares when it’s all said and done out of the transfer portal heading into the offseason.
Moreover, Elliott is actually one of the three most recent All-Americans for Texas. The other two are linebacker Joseph Ossai and punter Michael Dickson. Elliott had a tremendous 2017 campaign for the Longhorns where he registered more than 60 combined tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, six interceptions (two returned for touchdowns), nine pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
That type of talent that Elliott brought to the table is hopefully something that Ewers can bring along with him to Texas. That is something that he definitely brings to the table himself in terms of him playing at the quarterback position.
Texas is now looking like one of the two finalists to land a commitment from Ewers out of the transfer portal along with the Texas Tech Red Raiders and their new head coach Joey McGuire. Ewers is the topic of the offseason so far for Texas.
