Larry Turner-Gooden, ATH/S

It’s starting to become clear where the Longhorns coaching staff likely would want to play the former Arizona State Sun Devils commit and four-star Bishop Alemany (CA) athlete/safety Larry Turner-Gooden if he commits to Texas. The Longhorns would likely want Turner-Gooden to play in the defensive backfield if he does land on the Forty Acres when it’s all said and done for his recruitment.

There are multiple signs of good things to come for the Longhorns in pursuit of the commitment of Turner-Gooden ahead of the Early Signing Period. He’s looked to be trending to Texas for a few weeks now.

The two most recent expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions both predict Turner-Gooden’s commitment to land with Texas. And the Rivals FutureCast now has all of their analysts and publishers picking Turner-Gooden to Texas.

Texas does already have a safety committed in the 2022 class with four-star Denton-Ryan product Austin Jordan. But there’s still some versatility that both Turner-Gooden and Jordan bring to the table. If Texas does wind up getting them both in the 2022 signing class, it would be a nice boost for the secondary.

Turner-Gooden still has a lot of room to grow, but he can be a playmaker with great ball skills in the secondary for the Longhorns as well as a real special teams threat. His profile/scouting report can somewhat remind you of senior cornerback/special teams threat D’Shawn Jamison, who is also a former blue-chip.

All in all, Texas could use another addition to the secondary in the 2022 class. If new safeties coach Blake Gideon can close the deal with Turner-Gooden, which would likely come in the days ahead of the Early Signing Period, this would bring Texas one step closer to 20 blue-chips in the 2022 class.
