This was a huge weekend for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program in terms of recruiting both high school prospects and those big-time targets out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. It now seems like all eyes are on the offensive line prospects that are key targets of the 2022 recruiting class, and what happens with the former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman transfer quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Ewers was on campus in Austin this weekend for a visit with Sark and the Longhorns. There was a ton of buzz surrounding Ewers’ visit to Austin, along with a number of other high-profile visitors for the Longhorns. Texas also had key targets of the 2022 and 2023 recruiting classes to continue building the buzz with Ewers also on campus.

The buzz is that Texas did well with the visit with Ewers this weekend and the Longhorns’ confidence is reportedly growing (per Horns247, paid content) as of the early afternoon of Dec. 12. This makes sense given all of the movement for the Longhorns 2022 class this weekend.

Texas landed a massive commitment on Dec. 11 from the elite five-star Summer Creek offensive tackle Kelvin Banks. The former Oklahoma State Cowboys and Oregon Ducks commit Banks is by far the highest-rated prospect now in the Longhorns 2022 class.

And if offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood can lock in on a commitment from the elite five-star Bowie interior offensive lineman Devon Campbell during the week of the Early Signing Period, that will go a long way to officially prove to Ewers that this is the place to be. Ewers also has to like the potential at the wide receiver position in the Longhorns 2022 and 2023 classes if the ball gets rolling soon.

It’s hard to tell how real that rumor is that a commitment from Ewers to the Longhorns could also move the needle for the new Texas A&M Aggies commit and five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart. There is also the idea that a commitment from Ewers out of the transfer portal could also lead to four-star Lewisville wide receiver Armani Winfield coming back to Texas.

All in all, it’s easy to see why the traction between Ewers and Texas seems to be so real right now. Texas looks like it sealed the last campus visit with Ewers, despite the fact that the Texas Tech Red Raiders might try and get an in-home visit with him to cap the weekend.

Texas got the last word in this regard with Ewers, and there is likely going to be a decision in place with him ahead of the Early Signing Period. I’m pretty confident that this pick will be Texas, especially given the other momentum swinging in the Longhorns’ favor on the recruiting trail right now.
