What turned into an absolutely massive day for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2022 Texas football recruiting class took place on the first day of the Early Signing Period (Dec. 15). Texas started out the morning of the first signing day by flipping the commitments of three prospects to their 2022 class. That was highlighted by Texas flipping the commitment of the touted four-star Little Elm cornerback Terrance Brooks from the Ohio State Buckeyes.

All in all, Sark and the Longhorns reeled in five commitments on the first signing day, which is a massive haul for them in terms of both quantity and quality. Texas got two of their biggest blue-chip targets in the 2022 class on this day, which continued the momentum that Sark and his staff built up starting last weekend.

And the final commitment that Texas brought in on the first signing day this week was the four-star Todd Beamer (WA) offensive tackle Malik Agbo. As one of the most important targets along the offensive line for the Longhorns 2022 class this fall, getting a commitment out of Agbo is huge.

Agbo is now the sixth offensive line commit in the Longhorns 2022 class. And he was the first offensive lineman that Texas landed on the first signing day this week. He is also likely going to be the only offensive lineman to commit to the Longhorns this week.

The lone remaining blue-chip target for the Longhorns 2022 class along the offensive line after the first signing day is the elite five-star Bowie interior offensive lineman Devon Campbell.

Texas football ends first signing day on another high note by landing 4-Star OT Malik Agbo

With four-star Atascocita offensive tackle Kam Dewberry committing to, and signing with, the Texas A&M Aggies on the first signing day, pretty much all of the rest of the Texas OL targets are off the board for right now.

Moreover, Texas getting a commitment out of the lengthy and athletic 6-foot-6 and 320-pound offensive tackle Agbo adds another talented prospect to the 2022 class in the biggest position of need for this group. Agbo joins a mix of offensive linemen that also includes three-star Duncanville offensive tackle Cameron Williams, five-star Summer Creek offensive tackle Kelvin Banks, and four-star Allen OL Neto Umeozulu in terms of those who could compete for playing time right away in the trenches next year.

Agbo is a versatile offensive tackle with good size and a ton of drive off of the line of scrimmage. He’s also versatile enough that he could move to the inside to play at offensive guard if needed in college.

There is a need for Agbo to improve his motor off the line of scrimmage down-by-down. He can also get beaten off the edge at times by edge rushers with more bend that also have some good moves to the outside. That can improve, though, if Agbo gets his jump off the line of scrimmage improved a bit on the Forty Acres as soon as next year.

Agbo is pretty polished in most other areas of his game. He’s got excellent footwork, good hands, and is pretty reliable in blocking for the run and holding up the pocket in the passing game for the quarterback.

I would expect Agbo to take a year or two to be ready to regularly get reps along the offensive line. But he’s definitely got the skillset and versatility to compete for reps right away next fall. If he gets off to a good start by impressing offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood in spring ball and fall camp in 2022, he could very easily work his way up the depth chart fast.

Texas finished up the first signing day with an impressive 27 commits in the 2022 class. With the de-commitment of three-star athlete Anthony Jones in favor of the Oregon Ducks on the first signing day, this class made room for one more signee heading into the quieter portion of the Early Signing Period.
