Omari Abor, Edge Rusher

A target of the Longhorns 2022 class that is starting to re-emerge for this staff is the highly touted four-star Duncanville edge rusher Omari Abor. For the longest time, it looked like Ohio State would be the landing spot for the 6-foot-4 and 240-pound talented edge rusher Abor.

But the recent change to the Ohio State defensive coaching staff has shifted the narrative behind the Buckeyes’ pursuit of Abor. The switch from former Ohio State defensive coordinator Kerry Combs to the ex-Oklahoma State Cowboys defensive coordinator Jim Knowles already cost them the four-star cornerback Brooks.

Texas could also be the benefactor of another huge Ohio State recruiting target on the defensive side of the ball after the departure of Combs if they can eventually land a commitment out of Abor. The chance in the defensive coaching staff in Columbus doesn’t look like it went over so well with Abor.

This is now up to other top schools in the race to land a commitment from Abor such as the Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies, Alabama Crimson Tide, and LSU Tigers. Ohio State is definitely in the running still to land a commitment from Abor, but there lead took a hit with the coaching staff turnover recently.

Texas special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks and co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Pete Kwiatkowski did a good job lately to continue building the relationship with Abor. It looks like Texas might hang around just long enough with Abor to be able to win this one out in the end. This will be an interesting one to watch as we move closer to National Signing Day.
