3 biggest 2022 Texas targets post-Early Signing Period
TJ Dudley, LB
As it looks like the Longhorns are going to miss out on the elite five-star Cy Park linebacker Harold Perkins to either Texas A&M or LSU ahead of National Signing Day, this position group is still one to watch. Texas is likely going to seek out help at the linebacker position entering the offseason one way or another.
And if the Longhorns do wind up bringing in a high school recruit to the program this offseason, it will likely be via the four-star Montgomery Catholic Prep product TJ Dudley. This former Oregon Ducks commitment re-opened his recruitment after all of the coaching staff turnover took place in Eugene in the last few weeks.
Oregon saw the now-former head coach Mario Cristobal leave Eugene in the last few weeks for the same role with the Miami Hurricanes. That caused a lot of attrition in the 2022 class. And more roster attrition could be ahead for the Ducks once their offseason begins.
Texas could be the benefactor, though, of all of the coaching staff turnover that took place for the Ducks of late. If Dudley does land with a Texas school, it very likely looks to be with the Longhorns.
Dudley is likely to also look at the Hurricanes and UCF Knights throughout the rest of his recruitment. It does look like, though, that Texas is going to be a frontrunner if they do want to add Dudley as their top linebacker commit in the 2022 class by the time National Signing Day arrives.
Texas did host Dudley on campus for a visit last summer. Now that Texas saw the commitment of the four-star Lubbock-Cooper linebacker Kobie McKinzie flip back to Oklahoma, Dudley is certainly a name to watch in the weeks and months ahead.
