5 2022 early signees that can make an instant impact for Texas

It is about time for the Texas football program and to-be second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian to start shifting the focus from the 2022 recruiting class to 2023. There are still some priority targets left on the board for Texas’ 2022 class post-Early Signing Period. But most of the action is now likely to be behind us with the first signing period wrapping up last week.

Sark and the Longhorns have already signed 26 of their 27 commits in the 2022 class. The lone commit that has not yet signed in the 2022 class is the three-star Warren Easton cornerback Ronald Lewis. And the thought there is that the Longhorns are holding off on giving that scholarship spot in the 2022 class to Lewis given the success they’ve had otherwise for this cycle at the cornerback position.

Texas experienced a pretty massive wave of momentum on the recruiting trail ahead of the first signing period in the last couple of weeks. And the one position group that help to really build this wave of momentum in the 2022 class was the offensive line. In the days leading up to the first signing period, Texas landed three commits along the offensive line in the 2022 class.

Which early signees in the 2022 Texas football recruiting class are ready to contribute right away?

That momentum further increased when the Longhorns landed a commitment out of the NCAA Transfer Portal from the former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman quarterback and elite five-star recruit Quinn Ewers. Combine all of these factors, and the Longhorns were able to get eight commitments spanning from the weekend before the first signing period, through the first signing day.
