5 2022 early signees that can make an instant impact for Texas
Neto Umeozulu, OL
The offensive linemen that might be the most versatile in the Longhorns 2022 class was one of those additions that came right before the first signing day in four-star Allen offensive tackle/interior offensive lineman Neto Umeozulu. The 6-foot-4 and 285-pound Umeozulu is the second-highest rated offensive lineman that the Longhorns have signed in the 2022 class right now.
Texas is likely hoping to eventually have him as the third-highest rated offensive lineman in the 2022 class if they can land a commitment out of the elite five-star Bowie interior offensive lineman Devon Campbell by the time February arrives.
But the addition of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex product Umeozulu is definitely huge for the Longhorns 2022 class. The biggest area of need in the 2022 class heading into the first signing day was along the offensive line.
And boy did Sark and offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood really address that need in a hurry in the day leading up to, and during the first day of, this signing period.
With the Longhorns essentially not having a single established starter along the offensive line heading into 2022, Umeozulu is definitely someone that can compete for early playing time. If he can put on about 15 or 20 more pounds by the time fall camp arrives, he will have the physical profile and skill set that a freshman offensive lineman would need to make an early impact.
Umeozulu is also well-rounded in terms of his ability and fundamentals in pass and run blocking. He’s got a sturdy frame, consistent motor, and a good push off the line of scrimmage. The one spot that I would expect Umeozulu to challenge for playing time next year is at the right guard position.
With Texas losing both senior offensive linemen Tope Imade and Denzel Okafor due to lack of eligibility next year, Umeozulu could take advantage of the potential opening at right guard.
