Predicting Texas’ next transfer portal addition after Ryan Watts
On the night of Dec. 22, head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program landed a key commitment out of the NCAA Transfer Portal out of the former Ohio State Buckeyes promising redshirt freshman cornerback Ryan Watts. A former Texas target during his recruitment coming out of Little Elm High School in the 2020 cycle, Watts is a solid addition out of the transfer portal.
It is clear that the Longhorns need help in the defensive backfield this offseason. And some of that help will be coming from the 2022 recruiting/signing class out of guys like four-star Aledo safety BJ Allen Jr. and four-star Little Elm cornerback Terrance Brooks.
In fact, Texas was able to get a lot of help in 2022 from Ohio State in the defensive backfield by signing guys like Brooks and Watts. Brooks was committed to Ohio State for around five months before flipping his commitment to Texas during the Early Signing Period last week.
Where Texas football can turn in the transfer portal after landing CB Ryan Watts?
This is also the second former Buckeyes player that the Longhorns landed out of the transfer portal this offseason. The first is well known and came in the form of the former elite five-star recruit and freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers.
Texas is clearly getting a ton of help to add talent to their program directly out of Columbus, OH. Landing a commitment from Watts out of the transfer portal can help Texas right away. And it leaves likely around four or five more scholarships, in all likelihood, left ahead of National Signing Day in February.
Here’s a look into a prediction of who the next addition could be for the Longhorns out of the transfer portal after landing Watts.
